Day 6 - Finished

It's not easy to get a good photo of a stone carving. I have to work on my photographic skills.

I spent several hours today wet-sanding the carving with 220, 400 and 600 grit papers. This gets quite tedious, as the scratches don't show up when the stone is wet, so I sand for a while, dry the carving, look for scratches, and sand again.

When the sanding was done, I then buffed the carving with Tripoli compound, and again with White Diamond compound.

Finally, I applied a coat of carnauba wax, and buffed it again.

Day 6 - Finished

This picture comes close to showing the true colour of the stone. When spring finally comes I'll get a better photo and replace this one.

From start to finish, this carving took about ten hours. A lot of that time was spent 'thinking', as I had never carved a sitting bear before.

I'm quite happy with the way this carving turned out.
